MWA Completes Upgrade

Posted by DK on November 14, 2017

The Murchison Widefield Array radio telescope has completed an upgrade and officially launched Phase II.

The Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) is a radio telescope located in the outback of Western Australia. It has been observing since 2013, but over the course of 2016 and 2017 it received a significant upgrade to double the number of tiles and improve its performance.

This upgrade was completed in part with UWM undergraduates, who traveled to the site in the summer of 2016 (it was winter there) to build out parts of the array
