Jean's Adventure Aboard SOFIA

Posted by Laura Nuttall on April 07, 2014

The director of the Manfred Olson Planetarium, Jean Creighton, is back from her adventure aboard NASA's Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy, also known as SOFIA. See the following video for details about her experiences aboard this flying laboratory!

SOFIA is a highly modified Boeing 747SP jetliner fitted with a 100-inch (2.5-meter) effective diameter telescope and collects data in the infrared spectrum from altitudes between 39,000 and 45,000 feet (for more information on SOFIA see the official website). Jean flew with the SOFIA team twice during March 2014 and was thrilled with her experience.
