Getting to campus

Driving directions to the UWM campus and parking information on campus are available. We strongly recommend you park in the Union parking structure Alternatively, use one of the many public transit options described in Getting around. Bus routes between the conference hotel and a stop on campus are shown below.

Navigating to the conference: Midwest Relativity meeting

Directions to the conference site (Zelazo center) depending on how you reach the UWM campus. Given the diversity of travel options, we have provided an annotated campus map.

  • Arrive by taxi: Several taxi companies operate in Milwaukee and near the UWM campus. From the conference hotel or downtown, a typical fare might be $15; from the airport, a typical fare would be $30.
    • Veteran Taxi Cab Cooperative : 414-220-5000
    • Yellow Cab Co-op : 414-271-1800
  • Arrive by bus: Following the instructions above, walk east on Kenwood Blvd (university on your left). The Zelazo center will be on your right, across the street on the corner of Kenwood Blvd. and Prospect Ave.
  • Arrive by car: If you park at the union garage, the Zelazo Center is across the street on the corner of Kenwood Blvd. and Prospect Ave.
    Parking regulations are not enforced on Sunday. For the Compact Objects Meeting, participants are invited to park in the lot next to the Physics Building and EMS Building, immediately adjacent to that day's location.

Navigating to the conference: Compact Objects meeting

The Compact Objects meeting will be held in room 190 of the Engineering and Mathematical Sciences [EMS] Building, 3200 N. Cramer, as indicated on our annotated campus map.

  • Arrive by bus: Following the instructions above, walk west on Kenwood Blvd (university on your right).
  • Arrive by car: If you park at the union garage, the Zelazo Center is across the street on the corner of Kenwood Blvd. and Prospect Ave.
    Parking regulations are not enforced on Sunday. For the Compact Objects Meeting, participants are invited to park in the lot next to the Physics Building and EMS Building, immediately adjacent to that day's location.

Transportation and directions to hotel from Mitchell International Airport

The Aloft hotel is located in downtown Milwaukee.

Mitchell International Airport (MKE) is approximately 10 minutes from downtown Milwaukee. Taxis are available outside the baggage claim area. Approximate cost is $25-30, one way

Other Transportation

Shuttles provide door-to-door airport service to hotels and are operated by GO Airport Connection. This is the recommended mode of transit to and from the airport.

Driving directions (map)

Take 94 West / 43 North towards downtown Milwaukee. In downtown, follow the center lane marked 43 – North/ Green Bay. Follow 43 – North to the McKinley / Fond Du Lac Avenue exit. Go east on McKinley to N Old World 3rd Street (just before the river); turn right on N Old World 3rd Street, the Aloft hotel will be on your left.

Transportation and directions to hotel from O'Hare International Airport

The
Aloft hotel is located in downtown Milwaukee.

O'Hare International Airport (ORD) is approximately 80 miles from downtown Milwaukee. O'Hare is a major hub for several airlines, and may be a less expensive destination than Mitchell for some travelers.

Transportation

CoachUSA operates buses arriving and departing downtown Milwaukee approximately every hour (schedule).

Fare: $28 one-way, $51 round trip.
Pickup: Terminal 5 (International Terminal) and O'Hare Bus Shuttle Center.
Stops: Milwaukee, 4th St (west side), very close to the Milwaukee Intermodal Amtrak Station (map).
Travel time: approximately 2 hours.

Walk one block west on St. Paul Avenue to the Milwaukee Intermodal Amtrak Station (map) and hail a taxi to the hotel (less than a 5 minutes ride, 15-20 minutes walking; see map.)

A selection of Limousine Services also operate from O'Hare. This option may be cost-effective for groups of travelers. Rates vary, one service quoted $160 for up to 6 people and $180 for up to 10 passengers (not including taxes or gratuity).
