Getting around Milwaukee

Transportation

Getting around in Milwaukee is easy. All numbered streets run north-south, increasing in number as you head west from 1st Street. Most named streets go east-west.

Buses

Milwaukee's bus system, MCTS, has core routes with very frequent service. Tickets are $2.25 and drivers only accept exact cash fare. Ticket fare includes a one hour transfer, but you will have to get a transfer-ticket from the driver while paying.

Taxis

The main company is Yellow Cab (414-271-1800, 414-271-2710 or 414-271-6630). With the notable exceptions of larger hotels, the airport, and train and bus stations, you will need to call for one.

Highlights

Discovery World Museum: Features in depth interactive exibits about the Great Lakes and local natural science.

Harley Davidson Museum: Showcases more than 450 Harley-Davidson motorcycles and hundreds of thousands of artifacts from the company's 106 year history.

Milwaukee Art Museum: Milwaukee's premier destination for art and one of its most recognizable landmarks due to the new pavillion designed by Santiago Calatrava.

Milwaukee Brewery Tours: Milwaukee has a long tradition of beer brewing. Both large companies and blooming microbreweries offer public tours.

Milwaukee Public Museum: Excellent natural science museum in downtown.
